That time one of my dad's sculptures was unveiled in Lévis, Quebec

"Oh, your dad is the famous artist."I almost always got this response after telling someone my name growing up.It's true. My dad is the "famous" artist, at least he was where I grew up, and in Quebec, where he has definitely left his mark.The year I was born, he received wide recognition for his sculpture of Canadian hockey legend Maurice "Rocket" Richard (who btw held me when I was a baby #nbd). He's since portrayed numerous Canadian historical, political and cultural figures, as well as paying homage to the country's agricultural and craft workers. Click here if you want to see more of his work.And on September 28, 2016 his portrayal of Joseph-Elzéar Bernier, measuring over eight feet, was unveiled at the dock pack Lévis. Captain Bernier was a great explorer that allowed Canada to take possession of the Canadian Arctic archipelago to the North Pole.I'd say that deserves a salute.Thanks Karine Gagnon for writing this English article which helped me finally determine where the statue was erected, that detail was totally lost in translation when talking to my mom. One of the details not lost in translation though, was that the statue, which took my dad about eight months to sculpt, was actually stored in a box for years, it was intended to be erected in 2012 to mark the 100 years of the expedition.Here's some pictures on the day of.
